“The Guy Upstairs Is Looking for Me”: How God Is Reaching Quebec
“The Guy Upstairs Is Looking for Me”: How God Is Reaching Quebec
Despite being part of Canada, Quebec remains one of the most spiritually challenging regions in North America. Only 1% of Quebec’s population identifies as evangelical Christian, and of those, just 30% regularly attend church. Yet even in this resistant environment, God is opening doors for the gospel.
Since 2002, TWR Canada has partnered with Aujourd’hui L’Espoir (Today’s Hope) to reach French-speaking Canadians through powerful media outreach—including television, digital platforms, FM radio broadcasting and innovative ministry tools. Their work also includes a toll-free follow-up line, the Hope Line, which connects listeners to local churches and offers resources for anyone curious about Jesus. Through this partnership, God is moving across the province, and people are hearing the message of Christ—many for the very first time.
Reaching Homes Through Television
One of the ministry’s central initiatives is the television program La Parole Vivante (The Living Word), which airs on cable channels throughout Quebec. Created to reach French-speaking residents with biblical teaching in their heart language, this program brings Christ’s message directly into living rooms—often to those who have had little or no exposure to the gospel. For many viewers, it marks their first encounter with Scripture in a way that feels personal, relevant and full of hope.
Radio, Digital Media & Expanding Online Presence
In addition to television broadcasting, Aujourd’hui L’Espoir produces RadioEspoir, a French-language radio ministry featuring evangelistic and Bible-teaching programs. Available through FM stations, web radio and digital platforms, these messages meet listeners in cars, workplaces and homes—wherever daily life takes them.
To deepen engagement, the ministry also creates video and audio content published across multiple platforms—YouTube, Espoir.ca, RadioEspoir.ca, Facebook, Portailevangélique.ca, and more. This digital presence anchors the gospel among younger generations, who are especially responsive to creative, aesthetic and immersive storytelling.
For those without easy access to the internet, Aujourd’hui L’Espoir provides USB keys filled with biblical and evangelical content, ensuring that the message of Jesus can reach people in even the most isolated circumstances.
The Hope Line: Conversations That Lead to Community
The Hope Line remains a crucial part of Aujourd’hui L’Espoir’s ministry. This toll-free number allows people to call with questions, prayer requests or a desire to understand more about Christ. The team then connects callers with one of over 100 partner churches across the province, helping them find community, discipleship and personal support. Through these relationships, new believers are nurtured and seekers are guided on their journey toward faith.
A Story of God’s Pursuing Love
Recently, one listener shared a remarkable story of how God was drawing him in. He began noticing Aujourd’hui L’Espoir bookmarks appearing everywhere in his town—even at his physiotherapist’s office and inside a magazine in a waiting room. Each bookmark highlighted the broadcast schedule of La Parole Vivante in bright fluorescent ink.
“I said to myself,” he recalled, “The Guy upstairs is definitely looking for me.”
Curiosity led him to call the Hope Line. During the conversation, he was offered the book Destination Finale (Final Destination), which he happily accepted. When asked if he might want anything more, he replied, “Of course—do you have anything else?”
He was then sent a USB key containing Through the Bible programming, which he received with joy—another meaningful step in his growing desire to understand who Jesus is.
Strengthening Evangelism Across Quebec and Beyond
Beyond media broadcasting, Aujourd’hui L’Espoir actively supports local evangelists, equipping them as they share Christ in their communities. One of the ministry’s significant initiatives is the Evangelists’ Forum, an annual event bringing together evangelists and witnesses from across the francophone world.
In 2026, the Forum will feature hands-on training for digital testimony, along with interactive sessions for creating micro-content in collaboration with influencers and multimedia professionals—an essential step toward reaching a culture shaped increasingly by digital expression.
One Broadcast at a Time
God meets each of us where we are and gently calls us home. Even in places that feel spiritually resistant, His love reaches hearts in unexpected ways. We are grateful that through the partnership of TWR Canada and Aujourd’hui L’Espoir, the hope of the gospel continues to spread across Quebec—one conversation, one broadcast, one life at a time.
