Why the Day of the Unreached Matters
For many of us, hearing about Jesus is part of everyday life. Churches, Christian communities, Bibles, worship music, sermons, podcasts, and Christian videos are easy to find. If we have questions about faith, there is usually someone we can ask. But that is not true for everyone.
The Day of the Unreached is a reminder that millions of people around the world still have little or no access to the gospel. Not because they are unwilling to hear, but because they have never had the opportunity. Today, more than 40% of the world’s population remain unreached.
The Barriers Many People Face
For some people, the barrier is distance. They live in remote places with no local church, or Christian community nearby. For others, the barrier is fear. Openly exploring faith or talking about Jesus could put them at risk with family, community leaders, or even the government. For many communities around the world, the barrier is understanding. Some people have never had access to the Bible in their own language.
How Media Is Helping Reach People
The encouraging part of this story is that God continues to make a way for people to hear about Him, even in difficult places. One of the ways this is happening is through media. A small radio can carry biblical teaching into a remote village. A phone with an app can quietly reach someone searching for answers. Digital resources in someone’s own language can help them understand who Jesus is for the very first time.
Media can cross borders, overcome distance, and reach into places where traditional ministry may not always be possible. In some parts of the world, it is one of the safest and most effective ways for people to hear the truth of Scripture and be encouraged in their faith.
Reaching People Where They Are
Through TWR Canada and our global partnerships, media is helping bring the hope of Christ to people in more than 190 countries and in more than 300 languages. Resources are shared through radio, digital media, podcasts, video, and discipleship tools so people can engage with biblical teaching wherever they are. In many cases, these resources are created in local languages and shaped for the communities they are meant to serve.
A Reminder as We Acknowledge the Day of the Unreached
The Day of the Unreached reminds us that it is about people. It’s about the individuals, and communities who still have not had the chance to hear about the hope found in Jesus. But through media ministry, that door to hope is opening every day in places that can often feel hard, hidden and hostile.
As we reflect on the Day of the Unreached, may we continue to pray for those who are still waiting to hear and consider how we can come alongside the work of bringing the hope of Christ to people around the world.
