Reaching the Next Generation Through Media and Technology
Recently, some of the TWR Canada team witnessed God at work when they visited the ministries in Serbia and North Macedonia. They met with many leaders and ministry partners and witnessed first hand the growth of faith within the next generation. Recently, some of the TWR Canada team witnessed God at work when they visited the ministries in Serbia and North Macedonia. Where rugged landscapes meet ancient cultures, the Roma people in these Eastern European communities have faced unimaginable war and generational discrimination. But when God’s Word and hope are offered in an understandable language and an engaging format, transformation can happen!
We encountered a stirring devotion to reach the next generation with the gospel’s light in Serbia, where the local team produces and records songs and videos that are distributed online for church networks to engage the Roma children. Previously, there were only four songs available in the Roma dialect, none of which were Christian. Now, Roma children can joyfully engage with a collection of 20 songs based on Bible verses, accompanied by captivating music videos. Witnessing the children’s enthusiasm firsthand, we marvelled at their involvement in dance and song, glorifying God through fellowship and the gospel message!
Ministry partners shared powerful testimonies of their journeys to faith and their vision for community transformation. Initiatives like Superbook, a children’s Bible series broadcast in 100 countries and 60 languages, are making a significant impact on literacy rates and moral development among children worldwide. As a team, we were privileged to witness the premiere of the first Superbook video in the Roma language and to experience the children’s infectious enthusiasm. Even though we didn’t understand the language, the animations and musical themes connected us as an audience of people from different ages, cultural backgrounds and languages, who, together, could appreciate the biblical story of David and Goliath.
We saw how blending technology and media with effective biblical storytelling allows us as a ministry to transcend borders and terrain, and to touch lives that might otherwise have remained untouched by the gospel. Through these initiatives, local church leaders are empowered to nurture faith in hidden corners of the world, including an in-progress church planting project in a Roma settlement, where we got to see a sanctuary that will hold 600 people when completed!
We also saw how these leaders use technology to connect small groups, house churches, communities, families and individuals, and ensure no one feels alone on their spiritual journey. One of these leaders is Pastor Edijan in Prilep, North Macedonia who produces Voice of Truth and, with the help of his team and family, distributes the program online. We have partnered with Pastor Edijan for about 10 years, but he has been recording this program for almost 30 years.
Pastor Edijan shared with us what inspires the programs he writes. He has many heart-to-hearts with Roma people who reach out to him to share their burdens and life stories and who need spiritual assistance. Pastor Edijan listens and makes himself available to help however he can, sharing biblical wisdom and practical advice. We heard the testimony of Voice of Truth listener, Adam, who shared, “I’m glad there is a way to share the gospel and to encourage people like me. This program is God’s work.”
Our journey home was marked by reflections on the impact of the people we met and the stories we heard. We carry with us the echoes of joyous Roma children singing, and the firm belief that every dollar spent, each prayer lifted, and each word of encouragement offered makes a profound difference. In the ancient lands we visited, where challenges were as steep as the hillsides, we saw seeds of hope sprouting into a future where faith knows no boundaries. Please pray for our ministry in Serbia and North Macedonia as, together, with God’s grace and your support, we continue to reach the next generation with the gospel through media and technology.
