Growing Wise Leaders in South Sudan

Growing Wise Leaders in South Sudan

Discover how the program Tools for Wise Leadership shares biblical wisdom for leaders in South Sudan. Currently being produced in Juba Arabic, this program has already seen an impact through an English pilot project.

God speaks wisdom through his Word, but we must listen carefully to what he’s saying. We must quiet the inner noise of what we think we know and what we may have heard and believed in the past to effectively hear the enriching information and divinely arranged stories of the Bible. These teachings have the power to plant seeds of wisdom and strengthen the hearts of leaders to grow God’s kingdom. This is something King Solomon knew, for in 2 Chronicles 1:10 he prays, “Give me now wisdom and knowledge to go out and come in before this people, for who can govern this people of yours, which is so great?” (ESV).

Just like in Solomon’s time, leaders today, at every level of government, play an important role in ensuring the peace and stability of a country. This week, we praise God for the ways in which his Word equips leaders in some of the most diverse countries in the world, as seen through Tools for Wise Leadership, currently in production in the Juba Arabic language for South Sudan.

South Sudan gained independence from Sudan in 2011 as the outcome of a 2005 agreement that ended Africa's longest-running civil war. However, independence did not bring an end to the ever-growing and increasingly experienced conflict in the country. Corrupt leadership has formed a cycle of violence and increased fragmentation among leaders and their supporters. Through Tools for Wise Leadership, leaders at each level of national life will be equipped with biblical leadership principles to ultimately become a better, more peaceful, and prosperous nation.

In response to a pilot project involving the original English programs, listeners expressed interest in holding in-person training for political, business and church leaders, so that attitudes and communities can further grow and be positively changed. Here’s what other listeners shared:

“I would like to give thanks for this educational program. I wish our youths, leaders and politicians would listen to this program on air every day for these free skills and be able to build our nation.”

“I am a teacher from Uganda living in South Sudan. Your radio station is our medicine, helping our community with its problems because of the very educational programs like this one on leadership. If God wishes, I would love to see Dr. Roy Musasiwa come and preach here in South Sudan.”

“I point our leaders to this program. They need to listen to this teaching to improve their leadership skills. I am very happy for Dr. Roy Musasiwa. I wish he could be here one day for conferences.”

Once translated and produced, these 15-minute episodes will be broadcast in partnership with a local FM station in Juba, the capital city. When listeners reach out, staff will connect with them to answer their questions and assist them in seeking discernment to grow in knowledge and wisdom. Plans are being made to hold a conference with Dr. Roy Musasiwa for South Sudanese leaders to grow further in their leadership skills and be a part of changing their country.

As translation and production continues, we invite you to pray for the team on the ground as they prepare to launch this program. We look forward to sharing the stories of how God is at work in the lives of leaders in South Sudan!
