Vincent and Trina Collet

Vincent was born and raised in France. As a university student, he participated in two short-term humanitarian mission trips in Africa. After a long journey that led him to Canada for his studies, he came to know Christ personally. The idea of being a missionary was on his heart, but it wasn't at all clear to him how he could serve the Kingdom. When he heard about the possibility to serve in the French-speaking world with TWR Canada, he felt that the Lord was calling him.

Trina grew up in Ontario in a Christian family. She taught high school French from 2004 to 2011. Her first experience with missions was a short-term mission trip to Haiti in 2008, which helped her to understand the need for French-speaking mission workers around the world and gave her a desire to serve God’s Kingdom using the French language. From the time she and Vincent were married in 2013, they felt a calling to serve as a couple, and then as a family. Vincent and Trina have four children.

They are motivated by God’s calling to work with and for Him, in His strength, alongside their brothers and sisters in Christ, in order to spread the Good News to those who do not yet know or understand it.  As we are reminded in 1 Corinthians 3:9, “For we are God's fellow workers. You are God's field, God's building.”

The Mission Field

Vincent and Trina have long felt a calling to serve the French-speaking world. French is spoken by approximately 321 million people worldwide, with about 80-85 million native speakers and over 49 million speakers in Africa alone. It is the 5th most widely spoken language in the world, and the 4th most used on the Internet.  About 68 million people speak French as their first language in France.  There is a great need for people to know the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the French-speaking world.  In Africa, where French is spoken in many countries, Christianity is on the rise.  In France, the need to spread the Good News is great as well.  While it is often seen as a traditionally Roman Catholic country, with over half of its population identifying as Christian, the reality is that it is a very secular country and many of those who would say that they are “Christian” do not have a living faith.  The average person in France knows very little about the Bible and does not see it as something relevant for their own life. Evangelical Christians represent only about 1% of the population.

How They Serve

From 2018 until 2023, Vincent and Trina served in Lyon, France. Vincent was the Administrative Manager for Radio Colombe at PHARE FM Lyon Dauphiné, part of the TWR network.

Vincent and Trina have continued to serve with TWR Canada since 2023 from their home in Ontario. Vincent works as the French Language Translator for the Mission66 project. This podcast, originally produced by TWR in Portuguese and translated into English, takes listeners through the entire Bible chapter by chapter.  Vincent’s extensive experience in English-to-French translation of Christian texts has served him well in this task. To date, Vincent has already translated the texts of the podcasts for all the New Testament. The edited scripts were sent to his colleagues in Western Africa who are eager to start the recording process.

Trina assists with the editing of English content for ongoing ministry projects and programs.  Currently she has been devoting most of her time and efforts to updating and polishing the Discipleship Essentials program.  As a detail-oriented person who enjoys reading and writing, she is able to use her skills to help make this wonderful discipleship training tool easier to use; she prays that this work might help to make a difference in the lives of those reached by this program around the world.

Prayer Requests for The Collets:

1. Please pray for God’s blessing on Vincent’s continued work on the Mission66 project, and that in due time the podcast may be ready to move forward to the next steps of production so that French speakers around the world can learn more about the Bible through this program.

2. Please pray for Trina’s work on various ministry projects for TWR Canada, especially Discipleship Essentials.

3. Please pray for us to effectively balance our ministry work with home life, family needs, church involvement and Vincent’s studies in Theology.

4. Please pray for us as we explore where God is leading our family for future ministry in the next few years.

5. Please pray that God will continue to provide for our family’s financial needs as we transition between the different projects to which God has called us.
