TWR Canada is thankful for TWR Women of Hope, our ministry specifically for women. Prayer is a foundational component of the ministry, and we join them in praying for the ministry and those touched by it globally. We’re thankful for reports of God’s faithfulness in West and Central Africa and are excited to share this report from Colleen Shoemaker, our Women’s Ministry Coordinator. (Article adapted from the TWR Canada Women of Hope June 2018 newsletter.)
Scripture tells us that “… we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12, ESV).
Each month, TWR Women of Hope intercessors pray for women across the globe. In June, we prayed for women in West and Central Africa who have specific and very difficult issues to face on a daily basis. The lives of women here are marked with the profound impacts of lack of education and health care, war and poverty, child marriages and female genital cutting. The emotional and physical realities of these are significant and many. For most of us, it is hard to comprehend what makes up the fabric of their lives. Yet, as the Scripture says, there is an even greater force underlying all others. Spiritual darkness and oppression grips the people with fear and bondage to fetishes, voodoo, witch doctors and controlling cultural and religious practices. The people need to find their freedom, hope and healing in the name of Jesus.
TWR Canada supports the Women of Hope French language ministry in West Africa and the Bambara language in Mali. Specifically, since 2007, TWR Women of Hope has been ministering to women through the prayer ministry and French Women of Hope broadcasts. In 2009, production and airing of the programs in the Bambara language began in Mali. In the Ivory Coast, God is using the ministry and the teams to show his love through the broadcasts and prayer ministry but also through skills training, leadership development and visiting the sick and those in prisons. Their compassionate and practical interactions are encouraging women and pointing them to the love and hope Christ offers. For example, one prayer group visited an elderly woman who had lost her daughter, encouraging her to focus on the Lord during the difficult times. The women in the group then took turns visiting her home for over a month, comforting her, cleaning her home, receiving visitors and ministering to her.
One listener told us, “I am really happy when I listen to your program. Woman of Hope really gives me hope. When I look at my difficulties, I thought that I am the only one in the world to suffer. But when I listen to you, I understand how God brings me a lot. I would like you to pray for me so that God always gives me the courage to walk with him on the path he shows us.”
In Mali, the focus is on ministry through the radio broadcasts. Listeners are eager to listen and learn more: “We express our gratitude and satisfaction for this program that goes with its name, teaches us many things, heals our wounded hearts, strengthens our relationships, teaches us by giving us directions in life. Through it we have information, the light that is Jesus and what the Christian religion is.”
Surprisingly, we also heard from a Grand Imam who told us that “The Women of Hope program is impeccable. It strengthens our homes and our relationships. It contributes to peace in our society and is what we need for life. As an Imam, I cannot ignore that. I say thank you to TWR Women of Hope. Thank you to you too.” God is indeed working in the hearts and minds of those in Mali!
Thank you for your faithful prayers and support that allow us to proclaim Christ to the women of West and Central Africa. May you too find Jesus to be your hope and peace.
