Last September, we shared with you an update on Tony’s wife, Iris. We rejoice that it’s been nearly a year since her diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, and we are thankful for Iris’ ever-growing heart of anticipation for the day she sees Jesus face-to-face and enters into eternity with her Father.
Iris shared that she received a report from her oncologist that her cancer is growing again in the pancreas, liver and lungs. Her body has become resistant to the drugs she’s been receiving for the past nine months, so she will begin a different treatment plan shortly; she will continue with this new plan as long as the benefits outweigh the negative side effects.
She continues to be thankful for the good days that she’s had and is thankful to have had the opportunity to cook, clean, garden and spend time with many friends and family, including a recent four-day road trip with Tony.
Tony has just returned from another conference in Central Asia sponsored by Partners International. We hope you are encouraged by how God moved and worked in this most recent trip as described below by Iris herself in a recent blog for Partners International.
Have you ever wondered what script is used for the names written down in the Lamb’s Book of Life? Is it artistic like Persian? Or picturesque like Chinese? Or universal like Latin? Have the names been inscribed with something like a pen or a chisel? Who writes the names of the believers, the followers of Jesus, into this book?
What does the Lamb’s Book of Life look like? It must be huge to include the millions of names of the Saints throughout history. What is this book made out of? Are the pages thin like those used in small Bibles? Is the cover like leather? Is it electronic like an e-reader?
Now that I am getting closer to going to heaven and after giving the children’s devotional about heaven at the annual church family picnic the other Sunday, my imagination went wild when thinking about this most wonderful Lamb’s Book of Life.
The most important thing about this Book are the names written in it. My name is there. Is your name there?
On Thursday, June 7, at 1:00 p.m., four more names were added: *Hamid and his wife, *Samira, and *Nilofar and her husband, *Yazdan. These names belong to four precious souls who became dissatisfied with their religion that taught one must work very hard at being good enough to be accepted by God.
Hamid and Samira and Nilofar and Yazdan came to a Christian gathering at a retreat centre in a neighbouring country; they came with many questions about life. Samira had read short Scripture passages in a tract which had piqued her curiosity. When she finally found a Christian to get some answers, the lady directed her to email her questions to a Bible teacher. When the man discerned that Samira and Hamid were sincere seekers of the truth, he invited them to the retreat centre. It was not easy to get to because both plane and bus tickets were scarce during the national holidays. The bus trip through the mountains gave Samira motion sickness. However, all the difficulties were forgotten when the classes started, Bibles were opened and the teacher explained God’s plan of salvation. Lunch was usually late because the participants were eager to learn more.
Yazdan and Nilofar were introduced to the Bible teacher by a friend. When they were invited to come to the centre, they made it a priority to get there. Now that they are believers, they would love to come again and will do everything in their power to make that happen.
How the angels in heaven rejoiced when these four young adults repented of their sins and asked Jesus to be their Saviour and Lord! Please pray that they would grow in their new faith and become part of home fellowships in their cities.
We rejoice today with Hamid and Samira and Nilofar and Yazdan for the work that God did to bring them into the Kingdom! And we are thankful for Tony and Iris’ ministry to this people group and their hearts to continue the good work that the Lord has placed before them.
Please pray with TWR Canada in the days, weeks and months ahead for Iris’ health as she begins her new treatment plan; pray that she would be able to continue doing the things she loves with the people she loves. Pray also that God continues to give Iris peace as she prepares to enter into eternity with him. Pray for Tony and their family as well, and praise the Lord for the gift of time that he has given to them all.
