Our Home - Radio Ministry in Cuba

      Cuba, Biblical Counselling
God has answered our prayers for counselling programs to be produced in Cuba. The program Our Home is a 15-minute counselling program that will provide a biblical response to the concerns of listeners.

Radio programs have been transmitted into Cuba for more than 50 years but until 2009 there had never been a Christian program produced in Cuba specifically for the Cuban people. It was at this time that discussions began between TWR Canada and Alberto Gonzalez, who had an active ministry in the country, was a listener of TWR programs, and had a heart to speak directly to the needs of the Cuban people through radio. Alberto became TWR Cuban Ministry Director and producer of Christian radio in Cuba. Messages of Faith and Hope is a 5-minute daily devotional-style program (Click here for more on our ministry in Cuba).

Alberto has spoken emotionally about the impact of radio on his ministry and the growth and opportunity he has seen. Today there are too many letters from listeners for him to respond to personally and so he relies on a team of three pastors who assist in writing replies.

My ministry has been deeply blessed by the contact that I have with listeners by letters, telephone calls, emails, and personal visits and meetings across the country,” – Alberto Gonzalez

Each year Alberto receives close to 2500 letters, over 500 emails and 400 calls. Many declare that TWR radio programs are their church and Alberto is their pastor.

In 2015, TWR Canada purchased and renovated a building that has since become a hub for ministry activity in Cuba. It has been our desire to see more programs produced in Cuba from the studio located in the ministry center. A plan was put in place to produce counselling programs but one challenge after another has prevented Alberto and his team from moving forward. However, he has remained prayerful and hopeful as he continued to seek God’s will.

At the beginning of the year, Alberto met a young man whose personal hobby is recording Christian programs for his church. He distributes these to his congregation on CDs. A relationship was formed and Alberto continued to patiently pray and wait on God’s direction, which soon became clear.

The Lord has put the group together, choosing the people who have joined us to carry out this plan.” – Alberto Gonzalez

The young man has now agreed to be the producer of the programs and his father, who is a radio technician, will edit the programs.  Alberto will serve as pastor and lead counsel, and two women are writing and editing the programs which directly answer the concerns of listeners who have responded through letters, calls and visits over the years. The need for this program was recently confirmed at biblical counselling training sponsored by TWR Canada and our partner Hope for the Heart. At this event, ministry leaders from across the country were trained to respond to the needs in their communities with spiritual wisdom. The team that is now responsible for writing, producing and editing these programs participated in that training and have been using biblical counselling methods for several years.

Program topics include The Consequences of Poor Communication, Care of the Elderly and how to Avoid Divorce. The first 26 fifteen-minute programs have been planned and are beginning to be produced.

Pray for the team that God has provided as they prepare and produce the remaining Our Home program, and that they would be able to be aired soon.
