An update from TWR Cuba Director, Alberto Gonzalez

Some of you may remember when TWR Cuba Director, Alberto Gonzalez came to Canada for different ministry tours. Alberto continues to minister to the Cuban people through his program Messages of Faith and Hope, and through responding to listener letters, sending discipleship materials, and meeting listeners in person. Here are some of the house churches Alberto visited in 2016.

In Santo Domingo, Alberto visited a church and baptized three women. "All of them, the mother and her two daughters, came to know the Lord through listening to RTM (Radio Trans Mundial - TWR) and went to the church looking for help with discipleship. It was very emotional. The mother is suffering from cancer and is receiving treatment. She testified she is expecting healing from God, but if this does not happen she is ready to go with the Lord in peace, because her daughters already have Jesus in their hearts."

In the fields of Sancti Spiritus, (southern part of central Cuba), Alberto visited with almost 40 listeners from different house churches -- all of the listeners were farmers. One of those farmers had written to Alberto, which prompted his visit. Here is what the farmer wrote:

"These people knew nothing about RTM until one day a member of the Cuban government (name not given), an unbeliever, went to visit one of his relatives in the area. The government worker knew his family was looking for God, so he recommended they listen to RTM as his parents had when he was a child. The relatives found God listening to RTM and invited their closest neighbours to listen with them. God is great!"

In the remote town of Maffo in the foothills of the Cuban mountains, Alberto met with sixty listeners who were overjoyed that he had come to such a remote location to meet with them. "Constantly they thanked us," Alberto writes, "for travelling all the way over there, and considered it a great privilege to have us with them. We were really the ones who were blessed and privileged to find our ministry reaching people in such a remote location for all these years, and new believers too!"

The church of El Frances is on the beach. There were 80 people on the beach the day Alberto visited. This church was started because the pastor and his wife came to know Christ listening to TWR and contacted Alberto when his program began airing. They established the church on the beach and Alberto enjoyed being able to baptize six new believers. Over the years, the church in El Frances has started six other house churches nearby. Alberto writes, "The church constantly promotes the ministry of RTM and God is using them to bless and inspire a lot of people in this southeast part of the island."

These quick glimpses into the lives of a few of our listeners in Cuba indicate the impact that media can have in the lives of individuals. But more importantly, they show how TWR Canada is using media to enhance the work of the local Church. Because of these local churches, follow-up and discipleship is not only possible – it’s more effective!

      Please Pray...

Alberto is asking us to pray for two men of God who have suffered great personal tragedy recently. The pastor at a church in Cascorro (who is blind) lost his 30 year old son to a tragic accident. His son left behind a wife and a six year old daughter. This has created a huge gap in all their lives as you can imagine. The pastor at the church in El Frances lost his 32 year old wife to a heart attack. They have two children ages 5 and 10. Both men continue to serve the Lord faithfully, but your prayers are appreciated.
