As I have mentored younger leaders in ministry, one of the things that we discuss is the concept of leaving a legacy. Leaving a legacy requires proactive planning and forethought. The legacy I want to leave is a vibrant, well-funded media ministry that continues to touch the world with the gospel. I want to see TWR assist the church to share the gospel and disciple those who come into the kingdom.
By God’s grace, TWR Canada now works in over 50 countries around the world! Through our missionaries and on-the-ground partners, we are seeing lives changed through the hope found in Jesus.
To see that ministry continue, we must continue to plan well. Our annual operating budget is built in faith that funds will come in for missionaries and specific projects, and that many will continue to trust us by giving undesignated gifts to be used for a variety of operational and ministry needs. We praise God for the way he provides for the ministry each and every year.
But there is another category of giving that allows us to engage in strategic projects “above and beyond” our annual plan—gifts from wills and estates. These legacy gifts are not used for general operational costs, but are instead used primarily for project start-ups, capital projects and projects in closed-access countries.
Many have told us they want the funds entrusted to them by the Lord to be stewarded well and continue to further God’s kingdom even after they pass away. Additionally, many use this opportunity to signal to their children and others how important missions and ministry was to them. Careful planning by these faithful friends of the ministry has resulted in a growing legacy.
Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing some of the stories featured in our most recent newsletter. There is always more to the story than what we can share in a short newsletter, so we wanted to expand on a few of the stories that have encouraged us. We hope they'll encourage you too.
