A New Home for TWR Burundi

TWR Burundi now has a new place to call home!

After renovation setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, TWR Burundi moved into their new building in July 2021 and officially dedicated their new space several months later, and they couldn’t be more thrilled. Rachel Muhorakeye, the national director of TWR Burundi, shared, “On December 10, 2021, we had a truly special day where we dedicated our new building! Our hearts were filled with joy as we came to the end of this project. Our heartfelt praise goes to God who used TWR Canada to fully support this project. May the Lord bless the work of our hands. Indeed, ‘the Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.’”

The idea for the project started back in 2018 when former TWR Canada President, Ray Alary, along with TWR Canada staff and donors, visited the poverty-stricken country. They immediately noticed that TWR Burundi had little space to work in, as they shared an office building with another ministry, Scripture Union. With the help of donors like you, we came alongside TWR Burundi to support their ministry and enable them to purchase their own office space.

This new building comes with new technology for producing programming and plenty of space to grow. Many of the programs which TWR Burundi produces teach the importance of grace and reconciliation in hopes of bringing unity to a country which has faced division between tribes and the effects of genocide in neighbouring Rwanda. One listener of Good News for All recently said, “Thank you for the gospel of God that you have given us through this program. I am a state soldier and the Word of God has helped me. In my work, it isn’t always easy to apply those teachings, but I pray that I continue to get enough strength to love and serve God.”

But they don’t want to just broadcast hope. From this new space, TWR Burundi wants to grow their ministry and bring people into their office for discipleship. They hope to train up people in person and through the airwaves, to grow a culture of discipleship and a passion for Christ across the country.

Many who were in attendance for the building dedication also hope to see this happen in this new era for TWR Burundi. One attendee named Remy shared, “God is so faithful and just. He has answered our prayers by giving you this beautiful place. Glory to our heavenly Father. We believe the ministry of TWR Burundi will be even more expanded for his glory.”

A local pastor who has been involved with TWR Burundi for many years shared that TWR Burundi has provided much hope to the hopeless, especially in the dark period that the country underwent. He knows what this new office space means for the ministry and was so glad to see this building with his own eyes.

The Deputy Mayor of Bujumbura congratulated TWR Burundi and their leadership on their beautiful building in the centre of town. There is a saying that if you have a home, you are respected, and so this new home for TWR Burundi builds their respect in the community.

Excitement also came from those following on Facebook. Guillaume said “It was a good event. Praise the Lord! Congratulations and blessings to you. May the building produce much fruit.”

Praise God for providing a new home for TWR Burundi, which allows them to grow their ministry and share the hope of Christ with their country. To learn more about the impact of the radio ministry in Burundi, please visit our website.
