We are working with our team on the ground in North Africa to share Christ to a people group there through radio, online evangelism and discipleship. Ministry leaders in-country felt the Lord place a call on their hearts to strengthen relationships with listeners so they can see members of this people group grow in their faith.
We are currently creating social media and web tools that will strengthen the ministry’s capacity for follow-up with listeners. This includes social media platforms for the audience to connect with team members, a new website and a mobile app for distributing biblical programming to users.
The country we are working in is largely Muslim and has a culture hostile to Christianity; therefore, it is beneficial to use web technology. The authorities there have been working to shut down churches; however, we are thankful that despite intense persecution, a house church movement is spreading!
The on-the-ground ministry leaders are two TWR Women of Hope producers who are broadcasting Women of Hope programs as well as other gospel-centred radio programs in this people group’s heart language. The need for discipleship in this region is evident as listeners often ask us if we can put them in contact with a trustworthy Christian. They long for discipleship relationships; however, the number of requests for discipleship the team receives is more than they can fill. Discipleship is especially important in this country because it’s so difficult for believers to grow spiritually and experience fellowship, as many Christians have to keep their faith a secret.
The team in North Africa is growing; there are several volunteers in-country, two who will soon be trained to produce new content for broadcast and digital distribution. We are also excited that a new follow-up/audience relations team has been created. They will work to form relationships with listeners once the new technology is developed.
A training session for the team to learn how to best use this technology was set to take place last spring; however, it was cancelled due to the turmoil happening in-country during the weeks leading up to it. The training was rescheduled, and we thank God for that because a training session with this team would be the first time, after many years of ministry, that they would be gathering together for prayer and spiritual encouragement.
We are grateful to work with such a zealous and faithful team that is committed to using effective measures to reach the unreached. As for the future, the hope is to expand our social media and digital ministry to neighbouring countries. We have already had multiple meetings with groups in other countries who are interested in implementing these strategies to further their discipleship ministries and, ultimately, the kingdom of God.
Praise God that he is raising up willing labourers with hearts for this people group. Please pray for the team in-country as the work they are doing poses a risk to their physical safety. Pray the Lord would give them strength to continue being faithful in the midst of persecution.
