A Different Assignment with the Same Mission

We venture through our lives as Christians with one mission: “to make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). Through our pursuit of Christ and making him known, we can be given a variety of different assignments over the span of our lifetime. For each of us, these assignments will look different. It could mean serving as short-term missionaries overseas; it could mean staying here in Canada to earn the finances to help enable missions and church planting globally; or it could mean serving as lifetime missionaries on various continents and to various people groups. For TWR Canada missionaries Kevin and Lynn Baker, their path has been one which combines the desire to send missionaries and one that has meant saying goodbye to their family and friends here in Canada to go out for long-term missions.

For the Bakers, the process of being a part of the mission of TWR began in 1990, when Kevin and Lynn, along with their three young sons, applied for a one-year assignment on the island of Bonaire. After seeing Kevin’s skills as a tool and die maker at work on the island, they were thankful for the opportunity to serve with TWR.

Since their initial one-year assignment on Bonaire in the early 1990s, Kevin and Lynn spent an additional three years serving on the island from 1996-1999. In 2011, after feeling God calling them back to radio ministry, they began to serve on Guam until returning to Bonaire for another six years, from 2013 to June 2019.

In a recent newsletter, Kevin and Lynn shared the following with their supporters:

"As missionaries with TWR we will be moving from our present assignment in Bonaire, back to Alberta, Canada, and minister from there. During the next year our assignment will include four months of overseas assignment with a TWR entity wherever the Lord directs us. We have been in meetings with our TWR Canada president and with our interim director on Bonaire for the transitions. Thank you for your continued financial support and prayers for us at this time as we move to Canada and resettle with our new assignment coming up."

The Bakers completed their term of service on the island of Bonaire in June 2019. Since returning to Canada, they have been adjusting to their home and community as well as reconnecting with supporters.

Kevin and Lynn will continue to serve with TWR Canada until July 2020, both in Canada and around the world, as TWR ministry representatives. They bring many years of experience from the international fields where they have served. Kevin’s wide variety of skills and expertise are an asset to TWR teams around the world. He will be doing a minimum of two short-term overseas assignments where his expertise is greatly needed. TWR Canada has already received requests for their service including many from partners and missionaries we work closely with across Asia, Latin America and Africa.

It is a period of change and transition for the Bakers; a new assignment for them as they continue to pursue the mission of sharing Christ and making disciples. We thank you for your continued support of Kevin and Lynn Baker and their ministry with TWR Canada. Join us in praying that God would raise up churches and individuals to send missionaries to be a part of this great mission of sharing Jesus!
