What happens when someone hears the Gospel and wants to know more?

For many new believers, the journey doesn’t end with hearing about Jesus. It is just beginning. People need opportunities to ask questions, understand God’s Word, grow in their faith and learn how to live out what they believe. They also need people who can walk alongside them and help them grow. That is where discipleship matters.

Discipleship Essentials (DE), a Bible-based curriculum, developed by TWR Canada, is helping make biblical teaching accessible to believers and seekers around the world. Today, DE has been translated into more than 20 languages and is actively used in more than 8 countries around the world.  Through more than 135 lessons organized into 18 themed modules, DE provides essential biblical teaching and guidance for people who may have limited access to Christian teaching or discipleship resources. The resources cover topics related to Christian living and spiritual leadership, giving believers and leaders practical biblical teaching they can apply in everyday life.

And the impact can be seen not just in numbers, but in the stories of people whose lives are changing.

One listener reached out after listening to Discipleship Essentials in Bambara.

He shared: “I am listening to Discipleship Essentials in Bambara. I am a Muslim and this program has helped me understand who God is and His plan for us and the life He wants us to lead.”

For someone who may never walk through the doors of a church or sit in a Bible study, accessible media can create an opportunity to hear biblical truth and begin asking questions about faith. Once someone begins following Jesus, discipleship helps them take the next steps.

One believer shared with a TWR staff member that after to listening to a DE segment, he was inspired to act. He was encouraged to pray a prayer of repentance and connect with a local pastor; he did just that. The pastor welcomed him, reminded him to persevere and affirmed the value of the program. The listener said he planned to join a church and continue listening to Discipleship Essentials.

This is the kind of impact DE is designed to support: not replacing the local Church, but helping people connect with it, grow in their faith and become equipped to disciple others.

 In partnership with organizations around the world, the TWR Canada Discipleship Essentials content is distributed by radio, digital platforms and in-person training opportunities and is available free of charge to churches, pastors, leaders, small groups and individuals to use.

 Today, Discipleship Essentials resources are being used in places including Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Tatarstan, Albania, Cuba, Uruguay, Bolivia and the Philippines.

In partnership with CAMACOP (Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches of the Philippines), testimonies point to a growing discipleship movement that is grassroots and Spirit-led. In more than 8000 small groups, accessible DE resources, committed leaders, and strong partnerships are helping believers grow deeper in their faith while equipping them to help others do the same. This is what makes discipleship so powerful!

That is why TWR Canada continues to invest in translation, facilitator training and the practical support needed to get these resources into the hands and hearts of people who need them. Continued support from Canadian donors allows TWR Canada to have DE translated into even more languages and make the resources even more flexible and accessible.

Because discipleship is never just about one person. When someone grows in their understanding of God’s Word, they can encourage someone else.  The hope is not simply that people will hear. It is that they will grow, follow and help others do the same. And through Discipleship Essentials, that journey is already happening.
