Praying for Women in Central and Eastern Europe

Many women in Central and Eastern Europe experience the devastating effects of poverty. Domestic violence, divorce, child marriages and other social issues lead people to turn to alcohol, drugs, gambling and the occult in futile attempts to free themselves from their pain and despair. The lack of adequate housing, medical services and education continue the cycle of hopelessness. Some women end up leaving their communities to seek jobs or escape cruelty and hardships in their homes, only to be abused by strangers or forced into prostitution.

Millions of Roma people are shunned for being the poorest of the poor in several Central and Eastern European countries. Romani women and children are particularly vulnerable to being sold into slavery. Many of the Roma cannot read or do not have electricity in their homes, so radio is the best tool to teach these oral communities about God’s love for them. Many Roma villages are full of committed TWR listeners who have started prayer groups and local churches.

In formerly communist countries of Central and Eastern Europe, Christian radio assists evangelical churches by providing sound doctrine and moral teaching to those who were taught for many years that God did not exist. Radio can even reach those who are still isolated by their cultures, families and religions, helping them understand God and find hope in Jesus.

    Please pray for …

    1. Women in Central and Eastern Europe to discover new life in Christ and to experience the many blessings God offers his daughters. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

    2. Christians to speak up bravely and raise awareness of dangerous child marriages and of the many women experiencing horrible domestic violence or human trafficking.

    3. The Women of Hope teams as they teach biblical moral principles to women, who then teach their children what it means to have true joy even in bad circumstances. “See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ” (Colossians 2:8).

    4. Hope in Christ to replace the overwhelming sense of hopelessness throughout Central and Eastern Europe among the Roma, Muslims and atheists.

    5. The Albanian prayer program producer and the thousands of listeners who are encouraged by this radio prayer group, which is the only church some isolated Christians have.

    6. Wisdom and creativity for the leaders of the 50 women’s prayer groups in Albania. The needs of the many unemployed are enormous, and skills-training materials and biblical literature are scarce.

    7. Those who work with widows not only by counseling them but also by giving them a whole new perspective according to the truths of the Word of God. “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world” (James 1:27).

    8. The 10 million Roma people who live in Europe, most of them in poverty. According to the U.N., two-thirds of their young people are unemployed or out of school. Nearly half of Roma girls ages 15-19 are married or in a union.

    9. The Women of Hope programs in the Macedo-Romanian (Albania) and Balkan Romani (Bulgaria) languages to provide help to Roma listeners who are illiterate because poverty and child marriages keep girls from getting an education.

    10. Good communication and unmovable commitment to prevail in marriages in Albania, Belarus, Bulgaria, Russia and other European countries.

    11. Christians to care for lost and otherwise seeking people who come to church, whatever their social backgrounds.

    12. Christian women to step up as leaders in the TWR Women of Hope ministry in Bulgaria and for resources to be provided to start the ministry in Lithuania and Serbia.

    13. Wisdom and strength for the Croatian TWR Women of Hope team members so they can balance their time with their families, church ministries and full-time employment.

    14. The Holy Spirit to work in the hearts of each person who visits TWR Croatia’s Facebook page and website and listens to the Women of Hope program. Visitors are from Croatia, Australia, Austria, Bosnia, Canada, Germany, Macedonia, Montenegro, Sweden, Switzerland, the U.K. and the U.S.

    15. Women who are praying for their husbands, sons and brothers involved in gambling. Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in the hearts and minds of these men.

    16. TWR Women of Hope supporters who give sacrificially so that women in Central and Eastern Europe can have the opportunity to hear about God. “This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God” (2 Corinthians 9:12).

    17. Women who are abused by their cultures, families and religions. Ask God to help them understand how much he values them and how the Holy Spirit can help them.

    18. Church leaders to be aware of the dangerous prevalence of sexual trafficking so they can warn families and bring healing to victims.

    19. Families torn apart by divorce and the many lonely single mothers who are struggling to support and raise their children.

    20. TWR Women of Hope’s Hidden Treasures audio drama for sexually exploited and trafficked women. The 10-episode English version has been translated into Albanian, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Romanian and Russian. Pray for the Czech production, which is still in process.

    21. Intercessors in Poland praying for funds to begin producing the Women of Hope program in Polish so many can hear about the hope Jesus offers them.

    22. TWR Poland to be registered as legal Christian counselors and have access to help orphans, prisoners and families struggling to meet their basic needs. "Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering" (Hebrews 13:3).

    23. The Romanian Women of Hope listeners in Romania and Moldova to develop a personal relationship with God and allow the Holy Spirit to empower them to reach out to other women in need of Christ’s love.

    24. Opportunities in Romania for Women of Hope to spread the hope of Christ among women prisoners and refugees as well as other disadvantaged groups.

    25. Listeners of the Russian and Ukrainian Women of Hope programs in these home countries but also in Belarus, Germany and beyond. Many are lonely but receive comfort from programs. Pray that their family members will experience the hope and love of Jesus.

    26. Russian women who are marrying non-Christian men and hoping to bring these chosen ones to God. It often results in sad consequences such as destroyed families and broken relationships with God.

    27. Families separated because of economic struggles that force many who are unemployed to seek work outside their countries, leaving their children with grandparents or others.

    28. Roma people in Slovakia who suffer greatly. Multiple generations share one- and two-room shacks or apartments that lack water and electricity.

    29. Christians in Ukraine to better prepare to address secular perspectives on abortion, evolution, homosexual marriage, divorce and other family matters that threaten the future of their children.

    30. Women in Ukraine who are struggling to care for their families because war has killed the husbands, fathers, sons or brothers who had provided the families’ income.

    31. The funds and planning that are needed so leaders from many countries can attend the TWR Women of Hope Unite Europe and CAMENA Conference in September and be encouraged and equipped.
