This month’s focus is on spiritual growth. All through the Bible we hear the call to grow in our faith. One such call comes in 1 Peter 2:2-3: “Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.” What does it look like to grow up in salvation? How do we do that?
One answer to these questions comes from John 15:4-5: “Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” If we are in Christ, Christ is in us, and we will grow in Christlikeness.
But how do we remain in Christ? And how do we grow in salvation?
We can do this by knowing God’s Word. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). If we know God’s Word and allow it to teach us, rebuke us, correct us and train us, Christ will be in us and we will grow spiritually.
In Canada, we have many opportunities to hear and read the Word of God and have it penetrate our lives and change us. Around the world, opportunities to hear and read God’s Word can be more limited. The TWR Women of Hope programs are an opportunity for women around the world to hear the Word of God and to grow in their faith. From topics such as Jesus’ compassion, forgiveness, wisdom and the gospel, women are hearing the truth of Christ and the hope found in him.
As we pray for spiritual growth this month, praise the Lord for the ways he provides for us to hear his Word and to grow in our faith and understanding. Pray that God would change us and bring us into deeper relationship with him.
