    It's Not About Us

    TWR Women of Hope, Testimonies
What comes to mind when you think about prayer? Perhaps you love to pray; it comes easily and joyfully for you. Or perhaps you find it hard to focus and sit quietly in prayer before the Lord. Regardless, the truth is that prayer is essential in our relationship with God. And as we persevere, we will be blessed beyond measure!

Pastor and author Tim Keller has written an excellent, comprehensive book on prayer entitled Prayer: Experiencing Awe and Intimacy with God. He says this: “Prayer is the only entranceway into genuine self-knowledge. It is also the main way we experience deep change—the reordering of our loves. Prayer is how God gives us so many of the unimaginable things he has for us. Indeed, prayer makes it safe for God to give us many of the things we most desire. It is the way we know God, the way we finally treat God as God. Prayer is simply the key to everything we need to do and be in life. We must learn to pray. We have to.”

So you see, prayer is much more than just getting things we want from God. It’s about having an accurate understanding of who God is so that we can treat him as he deserves. It about him, not us. Yet the wonderful thing is that as we  focus on him, he hears our prayers and is pleased to answer according to his will.

At TWR Women of Hope, prayer is foundational to all we do. Prayer drives every initiative in this ministry and unites us together as we communicate with God. As we pray, either together in groups or individually lifting up the same prayer request, the Lord is glorified. And, as these two testimonies show, he certainly responds!

“I am 39 years old … I am divorced and I have a daughter 18 years old. I live with my parents. My father is an alcoholic. My life has not been so easy. But I am thankful to the Lord that through my mom and the church here in my area, I got to know HIM. Many years ago, only through the prayer of the church, I was saved [from] human trafficking. A guy who promised me a better life wanted to use me for sexual profit. None of the family knew where I was, but thanks to God, He found a way to save me from that evil place. I am in the family of God now, and I know very well that prayer for others is a great thing you can do for someone. Your Women of Hope programs have helped me many times to face different issues in my life.”—from Albania

“All of your programs have been a blessing to me. In the program Women of Hope, I would like to thank you for the simple greeting and calling us your ‘radio friends.’ The topics on violence [and] on anger are very up-to-date and speak to our experiences. During the program, tears flow down my cheeks – the Lord knows … I believe that the prayer you prayed at the end was for me too. I prayed together with you. The Lord did some healing within me...The words in the program about the ‘deep breath’ which helps work against rising anger helped me to remember: Prayer is breathing for a Christian. Too little prayer – too little strength; lots of prayer – much more strength.”—from Ukraine

    God is listening!

Let’s continue to pray. Why don’t you ask a friend or your Bible study group to join in praying with us? Thank you for being a part of what God is doing to bring his hope and healing!
