What a year it has been! As I was preparing to write you this letter, I remember back to the first letter I wrote to you—nearly one year ago. It was such an exciting time as I began serving with TWR Canada. I could have never guessed what my first year as president would be like. But God is at work!
As I reflect on the past year, I think about Jesus’ life and mission. We read in Luke 19 about a man named Zacchaeus. This man was disliked by many; he was a dishonest tax collector. But Jesus thought of him differently. After being questioned about why he would take time to meet with Zacchaeus, Jesus responded saying: “Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost” Luke 19:9-10 (ESV).As I write these letters to you throughout the year, it is my hope that you are encouraged that the work we are doing together is, in fact, for the same purpose of seeking and saving the lost.
This year we have seen our ministry grow and reach more people with the hope of Jesus Christ. The state of the world around us has only increased our urgency to share the gospel among the nations, and people are responding!
In Burundi, where our TWR team has been faithfully sharing programs like Good News for All and Jesus is the Answer for over 20 years, the ministry continues to expand. God has provided a new ministry centre to disciple Burundians and produce more programs in local and regional languages. One listener, Juvenal, is a Burundian farmer who works in the rice fields. He shared the following with us: "I always listen to the radio as I work. Thank you very much for the program of Good News for All. This program has touched my heart in such a way that I decided to receive the Lord Jesus as my Saviour. Please pray for me to keep firm in my faith."
In Quebec, downloads of our online programs have more than doubled from last year, and people are coming to faith in greater numbers than we’ve ever seen! For years, we have been refused airtime on secular radio stations. But recently, God answered many years of prayer when the CRTC approved a license for a Christian FM station in Quebec. You may wonder why this was so exciting for us. This is the first of many stations to be launched in partnership with local churches, allowing us to connect listeners to other believers in their neighbourhood. We look forward to hearing many more testimonies of people coming to faith in Quebec in the years ahead!
Where radio is not always available or permitted, media players are powerful tools. This year RTM (TWR) in the Dominican Republic distributed media players with Thru the Bible programming on them at a prison. In partnership with a local church, these players were delivered along with copies of Shareword Global’s Hope magazines. In one prison, a library was started, and Omar (a local pastor) gathered donated books to continue training prisoners in the faith. A group of prisoners shared: “God bless you Omar, God bless you very much. We receive this audio player with great joy and will put it to good use. We will be able to hear the Word of God with this. We thank you and your family in a special way.”
Radio home groups, like those in India, continue to be a source of impact and encouragement. Consider this story from a man named Muniya. He used to watch people gathering in his neighbour's house every week and was curious to know what they were doing. It was a radio home group, and Muniya had the opportunity to attend one day. He liked the Bible study and was attracted to the teaching that was in his own language, so he began to attend regularly. He gave his life to Jesus and became a regular member of the local church. Today he has his own radio home group! Because radio home groups have been such a productive way to share the gospel, and so many communities are learning about Jesus for the first time, we’ve now expanded our radio home group ministry to countries like Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan and more!
It has been a year like no other. The opportunities have increased like never before which means we need your financial support like never before as well. Today, would you consider how God is asking you to participate financially with us? Your gift will be multiplied through the power of media as together we reach millions for Christ. We would also covet your continued prayer for the work God has called us to. Thank you for standing with us as we help people like Juvenal, Omar and Muniya to know Christ and make him known!
Thankful for your partnership,
President, TWR Canada
