Do Justice, Love Kindness and Walk Humbly with Our God - Trans World Radio Canada

“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8 (ESV)

Since I was a teenager, Micah 6:8 has been a verse which challenges and encourages me. Today, I have this verse hanging in my front entryway, reminding me as I come and go to do justice, love kindness and to walk humbly with our God.

TWR Women of Hope is an integral part of TWR Canada’s ministry to women. We work together to build and equip women to fulfill God’s purposes for them, following the best example imaginable – Jesus. As a media ministry, we partner with people on the ground, to provide the discipleship needed for people to grow in faith.

Through radio programs, media player distributions, prayer groups and practical on-the-ground support, we work to do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with our God. In this, we demonstrate the love of Jesus to the women of the world, many of whom face situations which seem unimaginable to us in Canada.

In northern Mozambique, our Makhuwa coordinator, Maria, is a wonderful example of what this mission looks like. Our partnership with Maria includes the production and airing of Women of Hope in the Makhuwa language, as well as distributing these programs on media players.

On the ground, Maria demonstrates love and compassion as she walks alongside women in the midst of their joy and pain. In a country where girls are often married young and then mistreated, Maria has a heart to care for these girls as Jesus does. She opened a shelter for women who were young brides and then rejected. These young women often arrive having been abused and believing themselves to be unworthy of love.

One of these young women is a 21-year-old, who we will call Esther. She was sold as a young bride and raped by the men in the family she was married into. Esther became pregnant and then was rejected by her husband and abandoned. A friend connected her with Maria, who brought her to the shelter. Maria and the shelter’s pastor are now helping Esther learn how to care for her child, process her trauma and find healing in Jesus Christ.

Maria is also one of the voices of the Makhuwa Women of Hope radio program. She lives in a primarily Muslim community, but is highly respected, and local women come to listen as she records the program. One of these women, who we will call Naomi, came from a Muslim family, but kept returning to listen as Maria recorded. Week after week, Naomi heard about the love of Christ, and God began to slowly change her heart. Though she was afraid of the backlash she may face, she knew the truth of what she was hearing and Naomi accepted Christ as her Saviour.

Today, Naomi is a translator, working with Maria, and is a leader of a Women of Hope listener group!

Women like Maria in Mozambique, and others we work with, like Jeanne in Mali and Estelle in Côte d’Ivoire, each have a heart to reach the women in their countries with the love of Christ. Your support of TWR Canada’s ministry to women enables us to continue to obey the call of Micah 6:8 in Mozambique, Mali, Côte d’Ivoire and elsewhere.

We see God changing lives through the media ministry and discipleship that is happening through our on-the-ground partnerships. A listener from Ethiopia recently shared, The Women of Hope radio program is very important in bringing the gospel of Jesus to the world! God has given us this program to teach us, advise us and guide us. It restores our lives. Thank you very much for the teachings on family issues, social issues and financial situations. We are very happy to be members of the TWR Women of Hope ministry and we invite others to be listeners as well. Be encouraged to continue in this; we will be with you in our prayers!”

Would you consider financially partnering with us to support the work of TWR Women of Hope around the world? A gift of any size enables us to build and equip women to fulfill God’s purposes for them.

Your partnership helps to bring hope and healing to women worldwide. Thank you for partnering with us to reach women with the good news of Jesus Christ.

On behalf of the TWR Canada women’s ministry team, may the Lord bless you and keep you,
