Long Lasting Impact - Trans World Radio Canada

Dear Friends,

“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:10-11, ESV)

For nearly 50 years, TWR Canada has shared God’s Word to the world over the airwaves, through the internet, on media players, and more. With every program we broadcast, we hold to this promise of God in Isaiah 55. When God’s Word is preached, we know it does not go out empty. We plant seeds and God accomplishes his purposes in the lives of people globally.

Each week, we receive stories from around the world sharing the impact TWR programming has on the lives of those listening. But we will never know the full impact this side of heaven. For every story we hear, we know that there are many like it that we haven’t been told.

Recently, our Discipleship Essentials champion in the Middle East and North Africa, Mamdouh, shared a story we had never heard before. He recently held a training conference in a Muslim country in the Middle East, where 67 Muslim-background believers were trained to disciple others using Discipleship Essentials. These believers came from every province in the country, including cities where ISIS has a stronghold, and where Mamdouh and his team did not know there were any Christians!

One of these believers was a young man who we will call Amir. During the conference, Amir approached Mamdouh and shared his testimony: “I was a member of ISIS. When ISIS began to dissolve and the army started to take control, I got scared and ran away. I fled to my grandmother’s house and hid there. While I was hiding in fear, I began to question my Muslim faith.”

It was during this time of doubting that his grandmother told him a story: 30 or 40 years ago, she was listening to the radio and found a station where she heard about Jesus. It was the TWR Monte Carlo station in Monaco, and the more she listened, the more she learned. She put her faith in Jesus and has been a believer ever since. She said to Amir, “I haven’t ever told anyone this. Will you become a believer, too?” Amir shared that he prayed with his grandmother that day and put his faith in Jesus. At the conference, he chose to be baptized and is now learning how to disciple others in their Christian faith.

Mamdouh had tears in his eyes as he shared this story with us. This man who had once been a member of ISIS is now a baptized believer in Christ! And it was all because of the faith of his grandmother, who had once heard the gospel preached on a TWR radio station years earlier!

Friends, what is exciting to me about this story is this: not only did this woman come to faith through TWR programming so many years ago, but she shared the hope of the gospel with her grandson. That man then put his faith in Jesus and shared his testimony with us. What a reminder that God’s Word does not go out empty. God WILL use it to accomplish his purposes!

Around the world, we know that there are many more stories like this. Men and women who have heard and believed the gospel through TWR’s radio broadcasts and media content are now sharing that hope with others.

Many years ago, people like you partnered with us to share the hope of the gospel to the world. Amir’s grandmother heard and believed that message and decades later introduced her grandson to Jesus. Your financial gift today will have a lasting impact for generations. Would you join us in sharing hope to the world?

Together in Christ,

Dan Reese
