As we are in a global pandemic, and as the celebration of the death and resurrection of Christ is fast approaching, we want to take a moment to pause and remember him. This week we’re going to look at an important but often overlooked aspect of the Christian faith.
During this time of social distancing, of time off from work for many and of uncertainty for all, God is drawing us back to Sabbath. He is telling us to rest (Matt. 11:28-30). He is inviting us to recover from burnout, performance anxiety, the weight of deadlines, the desire to do. He is reminding us that our work does not define us. Our identity is found in being children of God. That’s all that matters.
We are human beings, not human doers. Just be. He has given us this sacred gift of time. Time to remember who we are. Time to soak in his presence. Time to study his word. Time to remember that God has always been our provider. Time to release our worries, as God commands us in Matthew 6:25-34.
God holds the whole world in his hands. He is sovereign. In this time of global panic, may you remember that “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed” (Deut. 31:8). The situation in our world may feel dark, confusing and chaotic right now. Let us remember that “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” (Ps. 46:1)
May your faith be strengthened daily as you put your trust in the Lord. He is near.
A note on the TWR ministry:
We thank you for your prayers for TWR during this time of global uncertainty. Media has never played such a significant role in an epidemic, and we are grateful to be able to continue to broadcast regular and specialized coronavirus programming from all our transmitting sites, as well as from websites like TWR360. We have been in touch with many of our international ministry partners and are beginning to hear reports of how God was at work even before the situation escalated, to enable ministry to continue effectively even when entire countries are locked down. In Nepal, for example, the team was able to distribute many Bibles and radios to listeners just before the lockdown, enabling them to listen to our programs and read the Bible in their heart language during this time of isolation. Across Latin America, special programming began airing this week. TWR’s partner in Italy is in the epicentre of the crisis in that country and is continuing to minister through it all. We look forward to sharing details of these stories in the coming days!
Please continue to pray for the radio programs, our teams around the world, for the needed resources to continue to be effective in a time like this, and especially that those listening would be encouraged to turn to Jesus.
